Korean imported pc parts? A writing that involves my research in free time (EN)

Disclaimer, if there's any mistake or inaccuracies, please tell me.

All articles are straight translated from namuwiki, and some involves searching in tipidpc (Philippines) forum.

I lived in Indonesia, and I just realized that we alongside with Sri Lanka, and Philippines tends to import Korean PC part. Also, Vietnam, and Pakistan too. Had no Idea in India this doesn't seem to proliferate (I only saw one Indian video with jooyontech bios on foxconn mobo)

It's all started with me watching Tech Yes City video about Korean PC part hunt. One commenter said that the seller doesn't care about price if buying in bulk, my theory is because they are outdated. However.... What's outdated in Korea, doesn't mean outdated everywhere.

Here, PC usage is relatively average, unlike early 2000s. Imported used PC parts came from mainly 3 countries:

  1. South Korea - very common at least for PC parts, Both Office or Gaming PC arrivals. This one is really compatible. First, the power cord, then the voltage, and yeah. Drawback is, they're physically very distant.
  2. Singapore - also very common, go look in Batam area, just 30 min from Singapore. Both Office and Gaming PC arrivals, photocopiers, phones, etc. The one from Singapore has greater chance it arrives with original box with original warranty (which is a plus but worthless point unless if it's international warranty), like MSI Corbell. It literally arrived by "mules" or person who carried those by hand (combine this with 30 days of ASEAN member citizen as tourist visa free agreement of ASEAN, BOOM. Or maybe some of them has Singapore work visa and basically having their passport filled with so many stamps). Covid turns the arrivals to mainly cargo shipping. Photocopiers always came with cargo shipping, there's no way you haul photocopiers lmao.
  3. Japan. - this is rare I think, what came from Japan is Office PC. It's due to lack of PC usage, they use phones instead, this one is really common until at one point IMEI enforcement happened, turning them to WiFi only (maybe easy to work around with tax?). Look for DOCOMO, AU branded phones. Source of Macbook and Apple product arrivals (most usage, called usually ex inter). 110V Voltage warning!
  4. Europe, Aussie, USA - Very rare indeed due to distance. I remember seeing listing for CDM prebuilts from Straya, and photocopiers from USA (this one is in immigration office... couldn't remember if it's Jakarta Pusat or Jakarta Selatan) 110V Voltage warning for USA!

This importation began since 1992, read the news here. It all started with Intel 286 units replaced with Intel 386 in Korea, and Cheol-Jin Park decided to sell 286's here. Because PC is hard to find back then, it sells well. And so on and so on. Maybe those 286 today here ended up in scrappage for gold.... idk.
I know this since I owned ASUS P4S333/C 478 motherboard which turns out to be Korean import. How do I know it? Well, turns out there's a sticker added by Asus Korea A/S or maybe distributor (afterservice, or aftersales service which is more fitting), which is STCOM. The board is very old, year 2000. And THIS motherboard started my research and discovery alongside with Emtek GeForce 6200 TurboCache.
This is what i'm talking about.
Note the MIC mark (정보통신부(MIC)), predecessor of KCC mark

This turns out to be bigger than I thought, but all of this info behind language barrier. So, I had to use google translate with Naver search engine in order to best picking Korean websites instead of international sites. The keyword I'm using is: "중고 컴퓨터 부품 수출". And jackpot, first entry is about exportation to Indonesia!

And some of you might not realize it now, that the Asrock board you bought turns out to be Korean import, to do this you must look at some of its distributors that tend to slap the stickers here and here:
  • Asrock: DNDCOM or ASWIN (up to 6th gen is easy to guess, you just look for DNDCOM sticker, ASWIN sticker, or KCC sticker, after 6th gen you must look from bottom, the sticker is relocated (Elna audio sticker).  Sometime for KCC sticker you need to look at PS/2 top, still it's easy to identify)
  • TG/Trigem Sambo: Some CRT monitors had Korean brand, 삼보컴퓨터 means Sambo Computer. Mainly arrived in Motherboards, Laptops.
  • Daewoo LUCOMS: Mainly disassembled before arrival here (usually uses Pegatron motherboard)
  • Jooyontech: Mainly disassembled before arrival here, Foxconn/Asus rebadge motherboard and some laptops.
  • Asus: STCOM (sticker on random location). Sometimes Jooyontech rebadged Asus motherboard.
  • Biostar: sold by EMTEK, UNITECH, DNDCOM, ABKO GTM (Abkoncore). No custom branding afaik, hard to tell.
  • Samsung, itself a mainly a redesign and rebadge of Foxconn, oldest import I knew is Samsung Pentium 4 478 socket (Harappa motherboard). Latest is the SKYLAKE series (H110), Samsung has stopped manufacturing desktop PC ever since. Also arrived: SENS laptop series.
  • LG, latest stock is H110 mainboard. There are some old LG IBM Thinkpads and desktops (LG IBM Multinet) here, maybe they went scrapped? LG Xnote, laptops etc also went there,
  • Foxconn: depends on BIOS, some has Jooyontech BIOS since Jooyontech uses either Foxconn or Asus MB.
  • Weird brand that you never really heard of:
    • EMTEK: rebadge of Palit (XENON) or Galaxy/KFA2 (HV), still operating today.
    • S/U/M/A/: well known for SIF GPU (discontinued 2004 (no PCIE), company got defunct 2006) This brand is actually had official presence here.
    • UNITECH (defunct): one of their series is LEGEND, manufactured by JETWAY (for MB). Also distributes PALIT motherboard and GPU.
      • MEDITECH (미디테크): subsidiary of UNITECH
    • REXTECH (defunct): some card like Black Label series are XFX rebadged.
    • ABSOLUTE (now doing business as Abko, look for ABKONCORE for international markets). Older formula series PSU are just straight up rebadged FSP PSU (slap their stickers and done). Back then they imports Nvidia Quadro GPU, and AMD ones too. Their graphic card business is no more. Tenergy series is said to be Andyson OEM. For Mighty ones, HKC.
    • Powerex: Korean PSU manufacturing, went bankrupt in 2018, and defunct in 2020.
    • Micronics: most of their PSU is made by Sirfa a.k.a High Power, exception is for Classic II 80 Plus Bronze which is made by Suichuan CE LINK Electronics. Still active as Hanmi Micronics. BTW, they're about to expand internationally as WIZMAX. Just like ABKONCORE
    • SkyDigital: Known for Power Station PSU, some are made by Channel Well (CWT). Still active (http://www.skyok.co.kr/)
    • Zalman: random OEM, some are made by HUI CHENG for their cheaper products, higher end ones made by FSP. Also manufactures something like cooler (this is what they're famous with, copper cooler!), etc.
In our country, the latest korean import is H110 Skylake motherboard series. H310 Coffee Lake is now available. For GPU I have seen Emtek 750 ti series (alongside with 1050 ti), GTX 960 by DNDCOM. Dunno why it doesn't get newer than those...
Edit: after digging some rabbit hole, am4 ASRock board + r3 2200, GTX 1070 colorful brand, SNK technologies 1050 Ti, Emtek GTX 950, ASRock b360, and Biostar H310 has been arrived. I'm waiting for EMTEK 1060 6GB, but 3GB version has been imported.
Aand, something crazy happened. On March 2023, someone imported GIGABYTE RTX 3060ti, A/S by JCHYUN. Might be ex-mining unit, the warranty is just 3 months.🤔🤔

Where does they'll sold?
In Sri Lanka I think there's a dedicated website called buykorea. Also used, daraz.lk.
In Philippines and Indonesia, sellers just use marketplace like Facebook, Shopee, and many more. Locate the seller accordingly, if entire offerings are korean imports, safe to assume most used stuff are Korean imports. (Except for thermal pasta or new stuffs.)

Why I do made this post? Out of boredom and trying to make history.

Does it matter if it's Korean import? Nah, the only thing is the warranty would be problematic. And who would expect used and branded H61 board having warranty today?
